San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has announced that is has begun offering a free commute option to any essential federal workers currently affected by the United States government shutdown.

The programme allows eligible federal employees to obtain a monthly pass for SFO’s GO>SFO Shuttle, a commuter bus programme typically available for all workers at SFO.

Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet said:

We continue to seek out meaningful ways to support our essential federal workers during this extended government shutdown.

By offering a free commute option, we hope to help relieve some of the financial impacts these employees are experiencing. We are truly grateful for their resilience, dedication and service.

SFO has also encouraged Airport concessions to offer federal workers a 50% discount on both food and beverage purchases, which, to date, 82% of SFO operators have decided to implement.

Finally, SFO is also offering financial counselling resourced to any affected federal workers.
