San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has officially celebrated the opening of its new nerve centre – the Airport Integrated Operations Center (AIOC).

The new 24/7 facility will henceforth serve as a centralised hub, handling the coordination and management of all facets of airport operations via the integration of its security, 911 dispatch, facilities, airlines, new customer solutions, and operations and planning departments into one, unified entity.

Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet, said:

We are truly proud to officially open the Airport Integrated Operations Center at SFO.

The AIOC is all about running the very best airport operation to deliver a consistent and seamless airport experience for our guests. My thanks go out to the dedicated AIOC team for making this new concept a reality.

Utilising a wealth of emerging technologies and historical data; the AIOC’s primary purpose is to ensure teams have the capacity to proactively monitor conditions, activate contingency plans and deploy resources.

Development of the centre first began in 2020, with the resulting building spanning over 22,000 feet and housing 67 new workstations.
