SITA has installed self-service passenger verification and check-in technologies at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in China.
This project aims to enhance the travel experience by introducing common-use self-service solutions (CUSS) for the airport’s international passengers.
Pudong Airport is recognised as China’s busiest international hub, with half of its traffic composed of international travellers. With the resurgence of global travel post-pandemic, the airport is addressing the need for more efficient operations.
SITA is thus deploying 52 self-service kiosks and 14 self-service bag drops (SBDs) throughout the airport. These installations enable passengers to independently check in ahead of counter operations, effectively reducing queues and minimising congestion.
Passengers using these new systems will experience a quicker, more autonomous check-in process. By offering the ability to manage their own check-ins and baggage drops, travellers can bypass long lines for a more efficient journey through the terminal.
Sumesh Patel, President, SITA APAC, said:As air travel booms globally, and airports see a massive surge in travellers, there is an increased need for technology that can speed up the boarding process, reducing delays and traffic for passengers. With this collaboration, Pudong Airport gains SITA’s leading self-service solutions, tailored to bring a streamlined journey to international travellers at Pudong Airport. As always, we are committed to optimising the global passenger experience with exceptional technology-driven solutions.
In the future, SITA plans to collaborate further with Pudong Airport to expand the roll-out of end-to-end self-service options
This undertaking aligns with Pudong Airport’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, focusing on enhancing overall passenger experience and operational efficiency.
