SITA has introduced a new global messaging platform, ATC Connect, designed to enhance air traffic control (ATC) communications by ensuring seamless interoperability between legacy and modern networks.

The solution enables efficient exchange of flight information between airlines, airports, ground handlers, and air navigation service providers (ANSPs), facilitating real-time and data-rich flight planning.

ATC Connect supports the transition from traditional Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Networks (AFTNs) to Air Traffic Services (ATS) Messaging Handling Systems (AMHS), offering a single-point connection for transmitting essential flight operational data, including flight plans and Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs). The system automatically converts messages between different formats, ensuring compatibility across various air navigation environments.

Martin Smillie, Senior Vice President for SITA Communications and Data Exchange said:

The mix of legacy and modern air traffic systems in different markets globally add unnecessary complexity and delays to air navigation. SITA ATC Connect automatically adapts to different air navigation communities worldwide with an innovative, single global communication connection that is both quick and secure. This is truly the future of ATC messaging, improving efficiency and allowing the industry to offer reliable and on-time operations.

The platform incorporates automated processes to optimise workflow efficiency, reduce delays, and improve resource management. Its built-in redundancy ensures continuous service availability. What’s more, it is equipped with automatic rerouting capabilities to mitigate operational disruptions.

ATC Connect also supports International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) communication protocols, ensuring broad compatibility and geographic coverage.

By offering a reliable and adaptable solution, SITA aims to enhance the efficiency of ATC messaging, supporting the aviation industry’s need for secure, real-time communications in flight operations.
