Sunshine Coast Airport has opened its brand-new outbound baggage facility, marking a key milestone in a larger 170 million AUD transformation of the airport’s terminal building.
Completion of the new baggage facility facilitate the expansion of checked baggage handling capacity for both growing passenger numbers and enhanced security compliance.

Construction is now underway for the next phase of the terminal expansion project, which will include a new check in hall and arrivals hall – both due to open later this year.
Key improvements found within the new baggage handling and screening systems include the introduction of new Rapiscan CT (Computed Tomography) screening technology, higher efficiency processing designed to manage higher throughput, updated infrastructure that aims to reduce operational disruptions and close overall compliance with Australian Government aviation security standards.
Sunshine Coast Airport CEO, Chris Mills said:Investing in critical infrastructure like this means we can grow, meet the needs of our airline partners, and continue to support national and international connectivity.
This new facility is the first major step in our commitment to provide the best service and experience for travellers.
Behind every smooth passenger journey is state-of-the-art technology and security that delivers a seamless travel experience.
We are excited to complete the first major step in delivering our terminal transformation over the next 18 months.
The full terminal expansion at Sunshine Coast Airport is set to be completed in 2027.
