Swissport, a global provider of airport ground and air cargo services, has opened a new cargo facility at London Heathrow Airport (LHR).
This development supports Swissport’s expansion strategy in the UK and reflects a 17% increase in cargo tonnage handled this year.
The new facility strengthens Swissport’s position at Heathrow, one of the world’s busiest airports, and aligns with further expansion plans at Gatwick, East Midlands, Manchester, and Stansted.
Joe Bellfield, Chief Operating Officer of Cargo said:Our new facility at Heathrow is a cornerstone of our global air cargo expansion strategy. It not only enhances our service capabilities at a critical global hub but also demonstrates our commitment to investing in infrastructure and technology to meet the growing demands of the air cargo industry.
Swissport’s expansion follows growth in e-commerce and an increased demand for specialised handling, especially for pharmaceuticals and perishable goods.
The new Heathrow site includes a Border Inspection Post for rapid airside inspections, 15,000 square feet of temperature-controlled space, and advanced systems for tracking and managing cargo.
