Swissport Wins Lufthansa Cargo at Heathrow and Now Handles the Carrier at All Its UK Destinations

Swissport in the UK has won a major cargo handling contract from the Lufthansa Group for London Heathrow Airport. With this win, the global leader in ground services and cargo handling now handles the German airline group’s cargo at all of its UK destinations.

The Lufthansa Group now also relies on Swissport’s air cargo handling services at London Heathrow Airport. The new contract complements the long-standing cooperation across the UK. Swissport, the global leader of airport ground handling services and air cargo handling, now serves Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines – all part of the Lufthansa Group – at all of their UK destinations. Swissport also offers landside trucking services.

Swissport's Chief Operating Officer (Cargo) in the UK & Ireland, Jason Gaskell, said:

“We are pleased to be able to offer our premium air cargo handling services to the Lufthansa Group at London Heathrow, where we handle around 11,000 tons per year for their airlines. With the addition of London Heathrow, Lufthansa Group now relies on our services throughout its UK network, including trucking between all airports.”

In the future, Swissport will handle air cargo for approximately 30 flights per week, connecting the hubs of Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines in Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Vienna with the UK.

In the UK & Ireland, Swissport is a reliable partner for 184 airlines at 27 airports. Under the ASPIRE brand, Swissport provides lounge hospitality services at 21 airports in the UK & Ireland.

The new contract complements the long-standing cooperation across the UK.

In 2020, Swissport International AG provided best-in-class airport ground services for some 82 million airline passengers and handled roughly 4.1 million tons of air freight at over 100 cargo warehouses worldwide. Several of its warehouses have been certified for pharmaceutical logistics by IATA’s CEIV Pharma and by the British MHRA. In 2019, the world’s leader in airport ground services and air cargo handling, with currently around 45,000 employees, achieved operating revenue of 3.13 billion euros. Swissport was active at 268 airports in 47 countries on six continents at the end of 2020.
