Several construction projects and facility improvements are scheduled to progress at Tampa International Airport (TPA) during 2026, as the airport continues work to update its terminals and passenger systems.

One of the main developments is Airside D, a new 16-gate terminal designed to serve both international and domestic flights. The final design for the building is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Construction work to date has focused on site preparation, foundations and drainage, with structural steel installation planned to begin later in the year. The new airside is being built to the north-west of the main terminal.

TPA is also replacing its automated people mover shuttles serving Airsides A, C and E. The new third-generation vehicles feature redesigned cars and updated control systems. New Blue Line shuttles are expected to enter service at Airsides A and C first, after which Red Line vehicles will be replaced. All shuttles at the three airsides are scheduled for replacement during 2026.

Meanwhile, the airport’s public art programme is set to expand further. New artworks are planned for Airside D and for the recently expanded security screening areas at Airsides A and E. A call for artists is due to open in February, inviting proposals for these locations.

At Airside E, work will begin on replacing the building’s original metal roof and gutters. Scaffolding will be installed around parts of the structure, with the project being delivered in phases. The reroofing programme is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with no major disruption anticipated for passengers.

Plans are also moving forward to refurbish the ticketing level of the main terminal. The project will involve reconfiguring office space, increasing the number of ticket counters and self-service check-in points, and improving passenger circulation. The redesigned area will connect to a future centralised baggage processing system serving all airsides. Design work is expected to start later in 2026 following the appointment of a design and construction partner.
