The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a new “Families on the Fly” programme aimed at making airport security easier for families during the summer.

The plan is being rolled out by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at selected airports across the United States.

The campaign includes new features such as:

  • Special security lanes for families at selected airports
  • Lower TSA PreCheck® fees for families
  • TSA PreCheck access for military members and their families

So far, the programme is available at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT). More airports, including those in Honolulu and Orange County, will be added soon. Others, like Tampa, Charleston, and Jacksonville, will join in the coming months.

Senior Official Performing the Duties of Deputy TSA Administrator Adam Stahl said:

DHS and TSA are committed to making the airport security experience as smooth and stress-free as possible for travelling families. The Families on the Fly campaign, being rolled out at select airports, aims to mitigate the unique challenges families face when travelling and minimise stress while maintaining the highest level of security.

Earlier this summer, TSA also launched a campaign to support military families by giving them faster screening at certain airports near military bases.

TSA also continues to offer help through the TSA Cares programme, which provides personalised support for veterans and travellers with special needs.
