The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to Rohde & Schwarz for the supply of advanced passenger security screening equipment at US airports in host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Under the agreement, TSA will deploy Rohde & Schwarz QPS201 advanced imaging technology (AIT) security scanners at selected airport checkpoints. The scanners are intended to support passenger screening operations during the tournament, which will be hosted across multiple cities in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Rohde & Schwarz’s contract covers the delivery of QPS201 systems to airports serving host cities in the US. The award will also contribute to ongoing manufacturing and employment activity at its facilities in Maryland and Texas.

The QPS201 scanner received TSA qualification in 2022, authorising its use at US passenger security screening checkpoints. It is also certified to standards set by TSA and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). More than 100 QPS201 systems are currently in operation at US airports, with over 2,000 deployed globally.

Frank Dunn, CEO of Rohde & Schwarz USA, Inc. said:

We are thrilled to receive this award to deliver QPS201’s high-volume and passenger-friendly on-person security screening technology to modernise checkpoints at the airports of cities hosting the matches. TSA’s continued investment in the QPS will also further expand Rohde & Schwarz’s economic impact as we grow and create jobs at our facilities in Maryland and Texas.

The QPS201 uses millimetre wave radio frequency technology to detect concealed items on passengers. Scans are completed in milliseconds, and the system features an open design with a hands-down scanning position, intended to support accessibility and passenger throughput.

TSA’s investment forms part of broader preparations for major international events expected to increase passenger volumes at US airports over the coming years, including the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Andreas Haegele, Vice President of Microwave Imaging said:

We are proud TSA is investing in modernising security checkpoints at the Soccer World Cup 2026 host city airports with our high-performance QPS201 technology platform. Rohde & Schwarz is deeply committed to our partnership with TSA. We will continue to develop and deliver innovative and effective on-person screening solutions to make airport security more efficient and convenient in the upcoming mega decade of travel including the Soccer World Cup, America's 250th Anniversary and the Olympic Games.
