Heathrow Airport (LHR) has achieved its seventh consecutive month as the most punctual hub in Europe, outperforming Amsterdam Schiphol, Frankfurt, Madrid, and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

Across July, the airport processed 7.9 million passengers, its busiest month on record, as well as its busiest ever day on 1 August with 270, 869 passengers.

Shorter security queues at the airport enabled wait times of less than five minutes for 95% of passengers at the airport, which saw a passenger increase of 0.9% when compared to July 2024.

Traffic saw significant elevation over the 4 July period, with increased passenger numbers both before and after the US Independence Day celebrations.

July also saw the launch of lululemon’s first-ever European airport store at LHR’s Terminal 5, as well as the first airside Marks & Spencer store in Terminal 5 and 5B.

Heathrow has also partnered with WHSmith and Lagardère Travel Retail to bring the first RELAY stores to the UK, with three flagship stores set to open across the airport.

Plans were recently submitted for a 100% privately funded third runway at the airport, which is expected to be operational within a decade and increase cargo handling capacity by 50%, as well as plans for an M25 upgrade that look to avoid disrupting traffic flows.

Heathrow CEO, Thomas Woldbye, said:

It’s that time of year when everyone is looking forward to their well-earned summer breaks and Heathrow is proud to play our part in delivering smooth and reliable journeys. We continue to break records as Europe's largest and most punctual hub - adding value for our airline partners and passengers.

To build on this success, we’ve set out a 100% privately financed plan to expand Heathrow, deliver extraordinary service, create wider and better choices for our customers, and grow the UK economy.
