Secretary Buttigieg and other leaders from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) have celebrated major investments in airports across the US during the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America Tour.

This tour acknowledged nearly 1 billion USD in investments to improve the nation’s airport terminals, with this year’s round of funding supporting projects at 114 airports across the country.

These improvements include enhancing the passenger experience, widening concourses, creating new gates, deploying efficient baggage systems and modernising security screening areas.

The Investing in America Tour commenced in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Secretary Buttigieg joined Governor Roy Cooper and Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles to celebrate 27 million USD awarded to Charlotte International Airport (CLT) to replace 16 passenger boarding bridges.

The White House states:

The investments are part of unprecedented federal funding in airports, including Charlotte Douglas International Airport, that will modernize air travel and improve the passenger experience, all part of the President’s Investing in America agenda.

In Miami, Florida, Deputy Secretary Trottenberg celebrated 27 million USD awarded to Miami International Airport (MIA). This investment will fund two projects to modernise the airport’s Central Terminal and Concourses E and F. This includes the rehabilitation of an Automated People Mover system.

What’s more, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff and Deputy Secretary Trottenberg visited Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to acknowledge its award of 20 million USD. This funding will be used to expand Terminal 2 to include two new gates, helping meet the airport’s future passenger demand.
