With forecasts of record-breaking passenger numbers, several airports have added special flights both to and from New Orleans to meet increased demands.
Between Sunday 02 and Tuesday 11 February, there will be more than 546,000 airline seats arriving to and from Louis Armstrong Airport, with Friday 07 expected to be the busiest day for arrivals with over 38,000 seats available, and Monday 10 expected to see over 44,000 seats available for departures.
The Airport has reminded passengers to follow its 4-3-2-1 system when leaving for departures:
- 4 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE: Arrange your transportation/drop off rental car
- 3 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE: Check your bags with your airline
- 2 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE: Get in line at the TSA security checkpoint
- 1 HOUR BEFORE DEPARTURE: Be at the gate, ready to board
In addition to additional flight preparations, MSY has also announced a number of operational changes during the Super Bowl period, including extended hours at some shops and restaurants, live musical performances and a selection of Super Bowl LIX merchandise available for purchase throughout the airport.
In order to ensure safety and security across the site, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be bringing in 100 additional Transportation Security Officers (TSOs), as well as extra K9 teams, with Federal Air Marshall teams on site to conduct security operations.
Finally, MSY will also optimise all ground transportation operations in order to facilitate increased demands, including the implementation of additional staging areas for black car and ground transportation operators and enhanced space allocation in the Ground Transportation Center.
