Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has begun implementing Deep Turnaround, an AI-based platform developed by Aviation Solutions, a subsidiary of the Schiphol Group.
The system is designed to improve the predictability and efficiency of aircraft turnaround operations — the sequence of ground activities that prepare an aircraft for its next flight.

Integrated with YVR’s Digital Twin, Deep Turnaround will enable real-time monitoring of turnaround processes such as baggage handling, catering, cleaning, technical checks, and boarding. The collected data will support more informed decision-making, operational planning, and efforts to maintain on-time performance across the airport’s network.
Andy Margolis, Vice President, Operations and Chief Operations Officer at YVR said:Investing in digital technologies is a key part of YVR's innovation strategy, enabling us to deliver reliable and resilient service to passengers and our airline customers. Deep Turnaround and digitising our gating process data will provide invaluable insights to help minimise delays for passengers and the movement of goods and ultimately support more predictable and efficient operational service.
Using cameras positioned at the gates, Deep Turnaround analyses CCTV footage to identify and record the sequence of turnaround events automatically. These insights feed into YVR’s Digital Twin, enabling analysis and adjustments to improve efficiency and resource use.
Caroline Massart, Head of Aviation Solutions said:With Deep Turnaround, YVR joins a global community of airports transforming airside operations, collaboratively setting new standards for efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. We’re proud to work side-by-side with our partners to solve real challenges and deliver results, quickly, for the airport, the airline and ground handlers.
Deep Turnaround is currently operational at selected gates, with plans for phased expansion across the airport. As passenger and cargo activity continues to grow, YVR aims to use data-driven insights to improve punctuality and support the airport’s broader digital transformation goals.
Air Canada is among the first airline partners to use the platform at YVR.
