Las Américas International Airport (AILA) has inaugurated a new cargo warehouse in a ceremony that saw the attendance of the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, alongside Dominican authorities.
The event also included the start of construction on a new passenger terminal, represents an investment of over 250 million USD and is expected to be completed by 2028, expanding airport capacity by 4 million passengers per year in the process.

Featuring a modern, sustainable design, the terminal is set to be aligned with parent company VINCI Airports’ global standards and will operate alongside the existing terminal, as well as align with the Innovation pillar of VINCI Concessions, which aims to introduce new designs and technology to enhance both passenger experience and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the ceremony included an update on the airport’s alternate runway 18-36, which was initially put into operation through the adaptation of its former taxiway, Juliet.
Carried out by Aerodom in collaboration with the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC); the project looks to enhance AILA’s operational capacity through an increase in air connectivity whilst work is carried out on the airport’s main runway (17-35).
The process has thus far seen technical studies, structural upgrades, runway lighting installation, safety zone levelling, and new signage, and directly supports VINCI Concessions’ Safety pillar.
Mónika Infante, CEO of Aerodom, said:Aerodom and VINCI Airports are unwavering in their commitment to the development of the Dominican Republic. Each investment we make is a step forward in strengthening airport infrastructure, driving economic growth, and ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous air connectivity.
