Aberdeen International Airport Donates Weekly Food Packages to Aberdeen Cyrenians

The airport (ABZ) has supported more than 1,200 of the most vulnerable people in society by making weekly food donations to local charity, Aberdeen Cyrenians.

The charity has been helping vulnerable people in the city for more than 50 years and assists the homeless through outreach support and advice.

Throughout the pandemic the charity has seen demand for services increase by 600% which is why the airport took the decision to step in.

The airport has been making weekly donations to the charity since August following the launch of its sustainability management group.

Part of the group’s remit is to better manage food waste at the airport and over the course of the past three months the airport has been donating excess food items that are still consumable to Aberdeen Cyrenians.

Environmental Coordinator at ABZ, Emma Lindsay, said:

It’s great we have been able to donate so much to such an incredible cause during challenging times.

Our commercial partners, particularly The Restaurant Group, WHSmith and ESS have made significant weekly donations and we are delighted we have been able to help Aberdeen Cyrenians and the wider Aberdeen community through our initiative.

We look forward to continuing to support the charity and working with our airport partners to enhance the various sustainability initiatives in place at Aberdeen International Airport.

Community Services Lead at Aberdeen Cyrenians, Lynda Reid Fowler, said:

We are very grateful to all the businesses at Aberdeen Airport for supporting our vulnerable service users.

At a time when many industries are struggling, it’s really heartening to see people and businesses supporting each other. The donations have been a real boost for our service users, providing items for food parcels as well as our wellbeing packs, with over 1,200 people benefiting so far.
