Massimo Garbini, Frequentis Air Traffic Management (ATM) executive Board Member, has been selected as the 2022 recipient of the Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award – the Air Traffic Control Associations (ATCA’s) highest honour and one of the most prestigious awards in aviation. The award was presented at the Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award Banquet as a part of the ATCA Global Conference and Exposition, taking place from 7-9 November 2022.
The aviation community comes together annually to recognise an individual’s outstanding, lifelong achievements in aviation. With over 45 years of air traffic management experience, holding top positions in air traffic management across Europe, Massimo began his career in the Italian Air Force as an air traffic controller. In his time he has also served on the executive committee at CANSO and was appointed by the European Commission as Chairman of the Network Management Board.
Another major achievement for Massimo was his role as Managing Director of the SESAR Deployment Manager, the entity that synchronises and coordinates the modernisation of Europe’s air traffic management system under the political oversight of the European Commission. In June 2015 he formally delivered the first SESAR Deployment Programme to the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission. A significant milestone in the modernisation of European ATM technology.
