BEUMER Group and HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors have announced a strategic partnership to redesign security control checkpoints at airports, introducing their SECTRO screening concept.

This offering aims to reduce wait times and lower the required staffing levels through airport security.

Improved experience: <yoastmark class=

The SECTRO product is expected to launch on the market in 2025 to optimise hand baggage screening at airports.

Each module can process around 1,000 passengers per hour with the same space requirement as a conventional smart security lane. Meanwhile, it requires 50 percent fewer CT scanners and can be operated with a third fewer staff.

For passengers, the solution will also deliver a more relaxed security experience.

Ronald Willems, Divisional Director Airport at BEUMER Group said:

More than a third of all passengers experience security checks as a particular stress factor. With SECTRO, we are not only ensuring a noticeable improvement in the passenger experience, but also reducing the personnel required for security and baggage control. In times of a persistent shortage of skilled labour, this is a competitive advantage for airports that should not be underestimated.

The SECTRO security solution requires passengers to deposit their hand baggage in a newly designed self-service area. Here, each person generally only requires one lockable container, which is linked biometrically to the passenger

Once the baggage has been checked, it can be collected again in a separate area. This process minimises the risk of baggage loss or theft.

If baggage does need to be checked separately, the passenger will be directed to a recheck area via a screen display

More efficiency thanks to automation: SECTRO can be operated with a third fewer staff. One module can handle peaks of around 1000 passengers per hour

A prototype of this system was finalised at the end of 2023 and the necessary certifications have been initiated. The first pilot project is scheduled to start in 2024.

Under this collaboration, BEUMER Group will be responsible for the market launch, sales, project management and customer support, alongside the development of the system control. HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors is supplying the mechanical conveyor technology.

Dr. Christian Baur, CTO of the HÖRMANN Group and Florian Pöckl, Managing Director of HÖRMANN Klatt Conveyors said:

The strategic cooperation with BEUMER Group enables us to successfully introduce this pioneering system solution to the market. With a higher level of automation, we are making air travel more pleasant and efficient.
