Commercial Programme Launched for JFK’s New Terminal One

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), The New Terminal One (NTO) and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports have launched the commercial programme for the 9.5 billion USD international terminal scheduled to open at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in 2026.

As part of this programme, URW Airports has issued its first prime operator Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Global Duty-Free supplier.

The commercial vision for the New Terminal One at JFK includes New York businesses, global brands and guest experiences. The collection of retail sites is expected to include several first-to-airport market brands.

The new terminal is designed to reflect the emotions of New York. In line with this vision, all five boroughs will be represented in the terminal through both aesthetics and cuisine.

Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said:

“From the outset of our $19 billion transformation of JFK, our goal has been to build best-in-class facilities that offer a passenger experience on par with or better than what travellers find at the world’s great airports. At the heart of that effort is the ambitious commercial program envisioned for the New Terminal One, which will bring together global brands and iconic local businesses that will combine with our public art, branding and architecture to create a sense of place unique to New York.”

Once complete, the New Terminal One will be the largest terminal at JFK. It will have 23 gates and more than 300,000 square feet of retail, dining and lounge space over a total footprint of 2.4 million square feet.

This project is part of part of the Port Authority’s 19 billion USD transformation of JFK as a whole.

Dany Nasr, CEO of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports said:

“We are excited to partner with The New Terminal One and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to deliver a world-class commercial program for the world’s best international terminal. The most sought-after brands see The New Terminal One as an unparalleled opportunity to capitalize on a premier audience, create global exposure, and express their brands within a showstopping environment. Together, we will set the benchmark for future airport developments in North America and beyond.”

With the launch of the commercial programme, URW will now promote the concessions business opportunities at the terminal, starting with two initial information sessions:

  • Introduction to Airport Concessions Opportunities (virtual) – Tuesday 16 April 2024, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET
  • Airport Certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) Concessions JV Equity Partnership Opportunities (virtual) – Tuesday 23 April 2024, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET

This outreach will focus on diverse entry points for local-, women- and minority-owned businesses. Interested parties should visit www.aNewJFK.com to sign up to attend an event or register for business opportunities.

Meanwhile, a Global Duty-Free RFP has already been issued. This tender is offered as a single package covering five outlets in the project’s initial phase, with additional space provided in future phases.

As part of the RFP, the operator must include at least 30 percent airport concessions disadvantaged business enterprise (ACDBE) participation and include a minimum of 5 percent of local business enterprise (LBE) product in its shop floor products.
