Hollywood Burbank Airport in California opened its new passenger terminal on 13 October 2026, beginning commercial operations.
The new terminal was developed by the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority (BGPAA) as a replacement for the airport’s existing passenger facilities. The project involved constructing a new building rather than expanding or renovating the current terminal.

The first departure from the new facility was an Alaska Airlines flight to Santa Rosa, followed by the arrival of a Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas.
The terminal includes several changes intended to simplify passengers’ journeys through the airport. Valet parking is available within the airport’s parking structure, while rideshare pick-up and drop-off points are located close to the terminal building.
Facilities include a bar overlooking the airfield and rotating installations by local artists. The airport has also retained its outdoor boarding arrangements, allowing passengers to board aircraft without using enclosed jet bridges.
Safety was a central consideration in the decision to build the new terminal. The design provides greater separation between the terminal building and the airport’s runways. The facility also incorporates updates to meet current earthquake resilience standards and accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Hollywood Burbank Airport Executive Director John Hatanaka said:The new terminal delivers the convenient, traveller-friendly experience that has long set Hollywood Burbank Airport apart, while providing modern infrastructure designed to serve the region for decades to come.
Hollywood Burbank Airport serves destinations across Southern California, including Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley, Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles. Its location also provides access to Universal Studios Hollywood.
The opening comes as the region prepares for increased international attention ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The new terminal is intended to provide infrastructure for the airport’s future operations while retaining features associated with its existing passenger experience. Commercial services have now transferred to the new facility, marking the completion of the terminal development project.
