Delta has expanded its Digital ID programme for customers flying out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Delta Digital ID was initially launched at the airline’s hubs in Detroit and Atlanta in 2021 to offer an efficient and touchless airport experience.
The technology, which was developed in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), uses biometric facial identification in place of an agent-facilitated document check. This allows customers to move through bag drop and security checkpoints without having to show a physical ID.
Instead, registered travellers can use dedicated lines where they simply look into the camera to confirm their identity.
At bag drop, this process takes an average of 30 seconds, which is an approximate 1.5-minute time savings from the standard bag drop time of two minutes.
Allison Ausband, Chief Customer Experience Officer said:We know a frictionless airport experience is integral to your satisfaction with your overall journey. With Digital ID, our customers spend less time hassling with their wallets, and our agents spend less time checking documents. It opens an opportunity for our people and our customers to genuinely connect.
Delta is also looking to expand the technology to additional hubs in 2024 in a move supported by its partners at the TSA.
Austin Gould, Assistant Administrator, Requirements, Capabilities and Analysis at TSA said:Delta Digital ID helps passengers save time and improves security effectiveness. It's a simpler, more convenient experience – one that strictly adheres to passenger privacy and our security protocols, as well as our mission of protecting our nation’s transportation systems.
