Finavia has officially named Kittilä Airport as its Airport of the Year 2025.
The airport was given the accolade for its ‘ability to combine financial development and business, the growth of passenger volumes and a high level of operational performance’.
Finavia has spent the last several years actively developing Kittilä Airport based on the growth of tourism. In 2018-2020, the airport participated in a development programme for all airports in Lapland, with Finavia investing approximately 25 million EUR into site airport during this time.
This development programme saw the implementation of new taxiways, more aircraft stands and extended baggage handling facilities, as well as an overall expansion of terminal facilities by 2,000 square metres.
Through strategic development, Finavia has expressed intentions to continue ensuring that conditions are in place for both safe and punctual airport operations, as well as a high level of service.

Kittilä Airport has been able to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction during the years of growing passenger volumes.
In addition, the economically sensible maintenance and efficient development of operations are closely linked to ensuring safety and the punctuality of operations. I am also particularly pleased that, according to personnel surveys, the employee satisfaction at Kittilä Airport is high, and Finavia is perceived as an attractive employer.
Finavia’s Airport of the Year award aims to recognise an entire airport’s personnel, as well as partners who have consistently worked to develop the airport. Each year, Finavia selects an airport from its portfolio of 20 sites, and awards it the coveted accolade. In 2024, the award was given to Rovaniemi Airport. The award was given for Rovaniemi Airport’s significant development, maintaining an excellent customer experience and its key role in promoting tourism in Lapland. Kittilä Airport was last voted Airport of the Year in 2021.
