London City Airport (LCY), SSP, Lagardère Travel Retail and WHSmith are investing 12 million GBP in refurbishing LCY’s departures lounge.

This project will include a 30% increase in seating, new dining options, a duty free expansion, new retail space and more washrooms. These upgrades aim to improve the passenger experience.

Feedback from passengers indicated they were keen to see improvements in the number of seats at LCY

The refurbishment will be carried out in phases and is expected to be completed by Summer 2023.

As part of London City Airport’s commitment to sustainability, the project will divert 98% of waste produced by construction away from landfill to be recycled.

London City Airport Chief Executive Officer, Robert Sinclair, said:

Whilst Covid has postponed our plans to build an entirely new terminal building, it has not diminished our ambition to invest in providing a London centric experience we know passengers want and have been waiting for. Our recovery in 2022 has been strong, and we and our partners, want to be ready to deliver an even better service in 2023 for even more passengers.

Lagardère Travel Retail will launch a tailored Aelia Duty Free Store including an ‘It’s London’ boutique celebrating the best of local producers

These planned improvements are based on passenger feedback, which highlighted a need for an increase in the number of seats, enhanced washrooms and better food and beverage options in the departures area.
