London Gatwick Airport (LGW) and GRIDSERVE have started construction on the airport’s Electric Forecourt®.

With this facility, Gatwick will become the first international airport in Europe to offer its own dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging station.

The Electric Forecourt® is set to open in summer 2023 and will consist of 36 high-power chargers that will be supplied with 100% net zero carbon energy.

Jonathan Pollard, Chief Commercial Officer, London Gatwick Airport said:

London Gatwick is pleased to partner with GRIDSERVE to deliver this fantastic and sustainable service. We are on a journey to create a low carbon economy, and London Gatwick is keen to play an important role by providing new infrastructure that everyone can use, so that together we can start reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

The London Gatwick Electric Forecourt® is being constructed on the Ring Road South approach to London Gatwick’s South Terminal. This location will provide easy access to transiting passengers, airport staff and local residents.

LGW says the facility will be pedestrian friendly and fully accessible.

Its design will follow the same blueprint as GRIDSERVE’s existing sites, offering users areas to work, shop, and lounge.

In addition, the site will also be used to host EV education and community events.
