London Gatwick Airport (LGW) has announced that work is now underway on its multi-million-pound North Terminal redevelopment project.
This project will see more than 10 million GBP invested in a multitude of improvements to provide passengers with a more personalised and relaxed experience.
Upon its completion in early 2024, the modernised departure lounge will feature new flooring and contemporary seating divided into differentiated ‘mood zones’. These zones will allow passengers to choose how they spend their pre-flight time, with designated areas for relaxing, working or shopping.
The project will also implement improved sightlines and wayfinding, including a new orientation zone with digital content to help passengers make the most of the departure lounge.
In addition, the transformed space will feature local artwork and a sustainable planting scheme inspired by the West Sussex countryside.
This undertaking marks the first major overhaul of the departure lounge since it opened in 1988.
The redevelopment is part of a wider multi-million-pound programme across Gatwick Airport which includes a range of modernisation and expansion projects and investment in its train station.
This programme has recently seen LGW update its branding and vision, with the view of making it “the airport for everyone, whatever your journey.”
Rachel Bulford, Retail Director, London Gatwick said:The redevelopment of our North Terminal is aligned with our refreshed brand and vision. The new features and layout will make the space easier for our passengers to find their way around and ensure they have a more enjoyable and efficient journey through the departure lounge.
It’s important that we create a unique sense of place for our passengers, not only through our retail and restaurant provision but also the look and feel of the departure lounge. We want to recognise Gatwick’s location as a London airport, while also celebrating being in the heart of the South East and all the fantastic things the region has to offer.
