London Stansted has announced the opening of its upgraded main airfield security checkpoint.

The new facility, which acts as a checkpoint between the public side of the airport and the restricted airfield, includes modern security systems, improved working conditions for staff and a more efficient layout.

Development of the building forms part of Stansted’s wider transformation programme to upgrade the airport’s wider infrastructure and facilities.

The facility is one of several recent major projects completed on-site, including the new domestic arrivals building, the refurbishment of the Satellite Two gate areas, significant baggage system upgrades and the construction of the airport’s on‑site solar farm, which is expected to begin full operations this spring.

Nick Millar, Operations Director at London Stansted, said:

This new checkpoint is an important investment that supports the safe and secure operation of the airport every day. While passengers may never see it, facilities like this play a vital role in ensuring authorised staff and vehicles can access the airfield quickly and efficiently.

It’s another example of the improvements taking place across the airport as part of our wider transformation programme, not only meeting the latest security requirements, but also supporting future growth to 43 million passengers a year and beyond.
