The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has announced that Newark Liberty International Airport’s (EWR) new Terminal A will commence passenger operations on 12 January.

The new terminal was officially opened in November 2022 following a 2.7 billion USD investment to replace the airport’s outdated Terminal A.

System tests have now been completed throughout the terminal and passenger flights will start operating at the new facility this week.

This date is approximately one month later than initially expected when the terminal was unveiled last year.

PANYNJ Director of Corporate Communications Thomas Pietrykoski said:

The Port Authority is pleased to announce that the first flights in and out of Newark Liberty’s new, world-class Terminal A will commence on January 12th. We look forward to welcoming passengers to this magnificent, state-of-the-art facility, where they will enjoy best-in-class functionality, inspiring public art, delicious local concessions, and a transformative experience from curb to gate.

The new Terminal A includes approximately one million square feet of space to accommodate 13.6 million passengers. It will have 33 common-use gates that can handle larger aircraft, as well as modernised check-in, security and baggage claim areas.
