Passengers travelling with American Airlines who fly into Allentown/Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (ABE) and Atlantic City, New Jersey (ACY) airports and use Landline-operated coaches to transfer to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) no longer need to go through security at PHL.
Thanks to the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) recent approval of airside-to-airside coach operations, passengers can now arrive at ABE or ACY, check in with American Airlines, clear security at these smaller airports and then board their coach on the secure side of the terminal. Landline coaches will then take passengers airside at PHL, allowing them to proceed directly to their connecting flight without having to go through security screening again.
Gary Tomasulo, Vice President of Corporate Security, American Airlines, said:We are thankful to the TSA, our regulatory and airport partners, and Landline for the collective partnership and work to achieve this first-of-its-kind milestone.
We are excited to offer customers a more convenient experience to clear security at their local airport and arrive airside at our Philadelphia hub with a seamless connection to our global network.
Gerardo Spero, TSA’s Federal Security Director for PHL said that several security requirements had been put in place for the bus operator and all airline personnel to ensure that robust security protocols were adhered to at all times.
Passengers arriving at PHL can board their Landline coach airside and arrive directly at their local airport. Checked luggage will be transferred between Landline’s vehicles and American’s network. Members of American’s AAdvantage loyalty programme can also earn miles and loyalty points by travelling with Landline.
David Sunde, Landline Co-founder and CEO, said:Airside service from ABE and ACY is a glimpse at the future of travel that Landline is creating, in which ground travel is fully integrated into the travel day.
Arriving airside via ground transportation and immediately boarding your flight reduces both time and stress associated with flight connections. We thank TSA and American for their partnership and support in this historic innovation for air travel.
Landline coaches can carry up to 35 passengers. There is free Wi-Fi on board and power at every seat.
