In Northern Nevada, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) has announced the official approval and financial close for the construction of a Ground Transportation Center (GTC) at Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO).

This 299 million USD investment is set to improve ground transportation services at RNO, with the facility scheduled to be operational by 2028.

The Public-Private Partnership for this project involves a collaboration with Conrac Solutions, which is owned by Meridiam.

Daren Griffin, President/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority said:

We’re proud of this unprecedented Public-Private Partnership with Conrac Solutions. This collaboration is a significant $299 million private sector investment, marking a historic moment for our region. Conrac Solutions’ proven track record in developing innovative ConRAC facilities aligns with our vision for revolutionising ground transportation at RNO.

The GTC project at Reno-Tahoe International Airport aims to alleviate congestion and tackle parking challenges at the airport. It will relocate rental car facilities from the parking garage to the new centre to free up hundreds of parking spaces currently occupied by rental car companies.

The Ground Transportation Center will span four flours and occupy a ground lease of approximately 440,220 square feet. It will initially accommodate around nine Rent-A-Car (RAC) brands.

The facility will be a short walk from the terminal and will incorporate covered pedestrian access.

To facilitate the quick turnaround of rental cars, it will include six car washes, three maintenance bays, twenty-four fuel positions and ample vehicle storage.

Daren Griffin added:

I want to emphasise the lasting impact that this important infrastructure will have, not only on our tenant and passenger experience but on the region as a whole. Rental cars are essential to northern Nevada and critical for our travellers to explore our region. By modernising our current ground transportation and rental car operations and facilities, we are not only enhancing efficiency and convenience but also contributing to the economic growth and vitality of our community. It’s an essential infrastructure that supports both current ground transportation needs and future advancements, such as accommodating electric vehicles. Additionally, its proximity, just a short walk from the airport, maintains the convenience and ease that is paramount to our travellers.

The GTC will be built through a joint venture partnership involving Q&D Construction and Webcor Construction, alongside a consortium of local subcontractors.
