San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has announced that its free Remote Bag Check service has processed more than 15,000 bags since its launch in 2024.

The service, which is available at both the Long-Term Parking and Rental Car Centre, enables passengers to check in luggage, receive boarding passes and travel directly to their departure terminal’s security checkpoint without visiting a dedicated desk.

The complimentary service has seen more than 15,000 bags checked since its introduction in November 2024

First launched in November 2024; the service, operated by bags, is available to passengers travelling on flights with Alaska, American Airlines, Delta, Southwest and United Airlines, with the latter two airlines added after the initial programme launch.

SFO has stated that of the two service points, it has seen a slightly higher usage from the Rental Car Centre, which accounts for roughly 55% of all transactions with the service.

The program, operated by Bags, launched in November 2024 with Alaska, American Airlines, Delta, and JetBlue. It has since added Southwest and United Airlines. Program usage is slightly higher at the Rental Car Center, which accounts for approximately 55% of all transactions.

Available between 4:00 and 20:00, passengers are able to check bags up to 90 minutes prior to flight departure time, with baggage fees still applicable.
