American Airlines has announced the installation of Starlink on more than 500 of its narrowbody aircraft beginning in Q1 2027.

A major modernisation of the carrier’s inflight customer experience; the move forms part of American’s ongoing commitment to improve onboard conditions for passengers, with the Wi-Fi’s implementation hoped to enable streaming, browsing and real-time communication.

The programme will be carried out on more than 500 of its Airbus aircraft, including new A321XLR and A321neo deliveries.

American Airlines Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden, said:

Starlink utilises a low Earth orbit in order to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting inflight streaming, online gaming, collaborative meeting tools and more.
