American Tower has announced the successful deployment of a new 5G Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).

The newly-installed neutral-host network supports a range of mobile network operators, and has been designed to meet evolving connectivity needs of modern air travel.

The DAS was installed to accommodate growing travel demand

With PIT expecting an influx of passengers due to an upcoming professional football draft; the new DAS has been installed to support both increased travel volumes and digital demand.

Selected via a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process; American Tower was chosen to both design and deploy a neutral-host DAS capable of supporting multiple mobile network operators whilst maintaining uninterrupted service during construction.

The final installation spans the entire airport campus, including renovated concourses, central services, mechanical zones and the newly opened terminal.

Eric Nagy, Vice President, In-Building Networks, American Tower, said:

Partnering with PIT on this transformative network redevelopment has been an incredible opportunity.

This deployment showcases our ability to deliver high-performance wireless connectivity infrastructure in complex property environments. Building the new DAS while the terminal was still under construction—often without walls, ceilings, or defined pathways—required meticulous early planning and creative antenna placement strategies to ensure seamless coverage from day one.
