Boeing and Turkish Airlines announced on 23 September an order for up to 150 type 737 MAX aircraft. Discussions around this order began in 2025 and support the national airline’s expansion aims.
The agreement was finalised in the presence of Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Turkish Airlines has purchased 100 737-8 aircraft and secured options for a further 50 737 MAX jets. This makes it the airline’s largest Boeing single-aisle order. The agreement allows Turkish Airlines to substitute to the 737-10, the largest type in the 737 MAX family, allowing the airline to serve more passengers on more routes should demand grow sufficiently to warrant this.
Prof Murat Şeker, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee at Turkish Airlines, said:This agreement marks another significant step in the continued expansion of our fleet. The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will bring greater efficiency and flexibility to our operations, supporting the extensive network we serve from our hub in Istanbul. We are pleased to build on our longstanding cooperation with Boeing through an agreement that also supports Türkiye's aviation ecosystem.
Turkish Airlines (including AJet) operates a fleet of more than 200 Boeing aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner, 777, 737 Next-Generation and 777 Freighter.

About the Boeing 737 MAX
Boeing says the 737 MAX family reduces fuel consumption and emissions by 20 percent compared to the aircraft they are set to replace. This will lower operating costs for Turkish Airlines, while also allowing the flag carrier to expand.
Most recently, Turkish Airlines ordered 75 787 Dreamliners – in 2025.
Boeing said this agreement was also accompanied by industrial participation, under which Boeing would continue its commitment and support of the Turkish aviation ecosystem.
