Brisbane Airport Commences Construction on $50 Million Parcel Facility

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has commenced construction on a 50 million AUD parcel facility for Australia Post.

This undertaking is the airport’s largest industrial project to date. The facility will be managed by BAC and operated by Australia Post’s StarTrack Premium service.

The Brisbane North Parcel Facility will be the postal service’s second-largest facility in Queensland, spanning 31,800 square metres of internal area. It will also offer direct airside access from the Airport Industrial Park.

This location will facilitate the seamless handling and delivery of time-sensitive parcels.

Brisbane Airport Chief Executive Officer Gert-Jan de Graaff said:

“This will be the largest industrial project ever constructed at Brisbane Airport. By providing Australia Post with direct airside access, we’re streamlining the delivery of time-sensitive parcels, benefitting millions of Queenslanders in the South East and regional areas of the state.”

The new facility will feature a custom-built warehouse spanning 31,800 square metres, a two-level commercial office space covering 2000 square meters, and parking facilities for up to 350 cars.

Once operational, the centre will be capable of processing up to 176,000 parcels daily, with the ability to scale up during peak periods.

The project is targeting a 5-Star Green Star certification for energy and water efficiency, climate change resilience, and reduced environmental impacts during construction. Over 1000 solar panels will be installed to contribute to renewable energy generation, aligning with BAC’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2025.

Construction of the facility is underway, with completion expected by mid-2025.

This industrial expansion aligns with Brisbane Airport’s broader 5 billion AUD Future BNE programme, which includes upgrades to the Domestic and International Terminals, as well as plans for a new Terminal 3.
