Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) has commenced construction on its roadway canopy as part of the airport’s Terminal Lobby Expansion project.

The first phase of the canopy’s construction is taking place from 27 September to 12 October and the airport’s upper-level roadway will be closed during this time.

CLT Canopy
The start of the 146,000-square foot canopy installation project is a milestone in CLT’s Terminal Lobby construction project

The 146,000-square foot canopy installation project will take two years and will consist of replacing the current blue canopy system with a permanent canopy over the departures/ticketing roadway.

This new canopy is a key component of CLT’s 608 million USD Terminal Lobby Expansion, which aims to transform the airport’s entrance by providing 366,000 square feet of new and renovated space.

The entire lobby expansion project will be complete in 2025 and will provide new, modern ticket counters, eight original artworks, charging stations, three large security checkpoints and five pre-security concession spaces.

The first portion of this project opened on the facility’s west side 27 July 2022.
