Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) has announced that construction is underway on Phase II of its Concourse A Expansion project, which is scheduled for completion in autumn 2023.

The 191,848-square-foot expansion will add 10 gates, three of which will be common-use gates, while seven will house Delta Air Lines. The facility will feature auto-tinting windows to help control the temperature and sunlight inside, hold room seats with integrated chargers, terrazzo flooring in the centre walkways, and two new pieces of art. The restrooms will be equipped with modern finishes and water-saving toilets and sinks.

The 10-gate addition will house Delta Air Lines and three common use gates

The overall cost of CLT’s Concourse A Expansion project is estimated to be 231 million USD. It will be funded by a North Carolina Airport Improvement Program state grant, Passenger Facility Charge bonds, and non-Passenger Facility Charge bonds.

JE Dunn and McFarland are the project’s construction contractors, and the expansion was designed by C Design and Perkins+Will.

The addition will be wider than CLT’s other domestic concourses to provide an open space with high ceilings and scenic windows

CLT also recently opened its Concourse E Expansion, which added one gate to the concourse’s north end and relocated nine existing gates to the new space for operational efficiency and to prepare for jet bridges by 2023.
