Denver International Airport (DEN) has outlined plans to construct pedestrian walkways linking its concourses as part of ongoing infrastructure and passenger experience upgrades.
The project will repurpose sections of the airport’s existing underground baggage tunnel system to create walkways as an additional option for passengers travelling between concourses A, B and C.
The proposal has been identified as an alternative to existing internal transport options for transferring passengers. Final design details are still being developed, with construction expected to begin in 2027.

The pedestrian routes will operate alongside the current automated train system that connects the concourses. The airport has recently invested in upgrades to that system as part of wider capacity and modernisation work.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said:This is a big win for Denver’s travellers and for our entire community. We’ve heard loud and clear that easier, more reliable ways to move between concourses has been a top priority for people travelling in and out of DEN. These new pedestrian walkways would deliver on that – giving folks more flexibility while we continue building one of the best-connected airports in the world. And who knows… maybe along the way, travellers will finally get a closer look at the underground tunnels and decide for themselves what’s fact and what’s fiction.
The walkway project is part of DEN’s longer-term infrastructure strategy, known as its Vision 100 plan, which is intended to support future passenger growth. The programme is designed to prepare for annual passenger volumes of up to 100 million travellers.
The airport has expanded its infrastructure in recent years, including the addition of new gates across its concourses and ongoing work to refurbish existing terminal areas. The Great Hall redevelopment of the Jeppesen Terminal is also nearing completion, expected in 2027.
The pedestrian walkways form part of this wider investment programme aimed at supporting long-term growth in passenger numbers while improving internal connectivity across the airport.
DEN Chief Executive Phil Washington said:As DEN continues to increase passenger numbers and global connections, we are committed to providing customers with the best airport experience. Adding pedestrian walkways to DEN’s current infrastructure is another key component of our Vision 100 plan.
