Clayco has been awarded the design-build contract for the East Terminal Expansion project at Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) in Indiana.
This project is part of the airport’s ongoing Project Gateway, which opened the first major portion of its West Terminal Expansion and Rehabilitation project earlier this year.
Following this work, construction on the 35,500-square-foot renovation and expansion of the East Terminal will start in May 2023 to further support the airport’s growth.
Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports said:We are thrilled to welcome Clayco onboard as our Construction Manager for the East Terminal Expansion project. Over the last several years we have been working hard to bring a modern, accessible airport to our community. FWA serves as the first impression for many visitors to our area, and it is our goal to present the best front-door possible while we support our community and the Northeast Indiana region’s continued growth. By completing the East Terminal Expansion project, we will do just that.
Alongside the planned renovation and expansion, the project will relocate all airline gates and passenger boarding bridges to the second level. Meanwhile, the TSA security checkpoint area will be expanded, the airport restaurant will be relocated and a new frequent flyer lounge will be built.
Work will also include new and improved public areas such as additional restrooms, new meet and greet space, expanded circulation areas and new lifts and escalators.
The Clayco team will demolish existing interior and structural components to expand the building outward and vertically over the first floor. Work is also expected to take place to update the existing baggage claim and rental car areas.
Mac Glinn, Clayco Senior Vice President and Aviation Business Unit Leader said:This is a challenging and exciting project that will complete the process of creating a beautiful, functional, and efficient Gateway for this thriving community. We look forward to collaborating with the Fort Wayne Airport Authority to minimise impacts to all stakeholders and deliver this facility in a safe, cost effective, high quality, and timely manner.
Clayco is scheduled to complete this project in June 2025.
