MAN Truck & Bus and Munich Airport are deploying a fleet of MAN Lion’s City E electric apron buses.
The airport’s ground handling subsidiary, AeroGround is in the process of converting its apron bus operations to electric vehicles. Up to 74 buses are expected to enter service over the coming years. At present, 37 vehicles are already in operation, transporting passengers, crew and airport staff across the airfield.

The move forms part of Munich Airport’s target to reach net zero emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2035. The electric buses are intended to replace diesel-powered vehicles previously used for airside transport.
To accompany the rollout, the organisations have launched a six-part social media series titled “Boarding by eBus.” The series follows an intern, Patrik, and an experienced bus driver, Franz, as they introduce viewers to daily operations involving electric apron buses.
The campaign also addresses recruitment challenges within the transport sector, particularly a shortage of drivers. It presents the role of airport bus driver as a technical and operational position involving modern vehicles and systems.
The series is being published across the social media channels of MAN Truck & Bus and Munich Airport.
