Salvador Airport Rewarded for Sustainability Program

Salvador Airport Rewarded for Second Year in a Row for Its Sustainability Program

For second year in a row, Salvador Bahia airport – member of the VINCI Airports network – has been recognized with the Via Viva award, which is granted by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Brazil. Salvador Bahia airport has reached the highest score on the Environmental Performance Index (IDA) for the transport & infrastructure sector. The Environmental Performance Index evaluates socio-environmental management practices and verifies the quality of the evolution of the sector’s commitment, serving as a parameter to assess the effectiveness of sustainability programs.

This is Salvador Bahia airport’s second environmental award in 2021, as in June it was recognized as the most sustainable airport in Brazil by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac).

SSA is part of the VINCI Airports network.

Since VINCI Airports started operating the airport in 2018, it has reduced its carbon emissions by 30% due to the implementation of a solar plant with 11,000 solar panels, replacement of common lighting and ventilation / air conditioning systems with more energy efficient systems.

These achievements are the result of VINCI Airports’ environmental strategy that is consistently deployed worldwide on all its 45 airports with the ambition to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.

VINCI Airports’ recent initiatives in other geographies include introducing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the first time at London Gatwick airport and launching a partnership along Airbus and Air Liquide to promote the use of hydrogen and accelerate the decarbonization of the aviation sector in Lyon-Saint Exupéry (France).

Yann Le Bihan, technical director of Salvador Bahia Airport, highlights:

“VINCI Airports encourages us to be the leaders of the decarbonization of air transport, thus we will continue innovating and engaging with our partners and the local community for sustainability.”
