United Airlines will add 10 international destinations to its network in 2027, alongside three new routes to cities it already serves.
The expansion, announced on 25 August, is the largest international network expansion in its history. The new destinations are in Europe and Asia, with services due to begin between March and June 2027, subject to government approval.
United will launch a new route from San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan, on 27 March, operating three times a week with Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. It will also add daily services from Newark to Luxembourg from 2 April, using Airbus A321XLR aircraft.
Other new services from Newark include four-weekly flights to Ljubljana, Slovenia, three-weekly flights to Olbia in Sardinia and four-weekly flights to Catania in Sicily. The airline will also operate new services to Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille and Terceira in the Azores.
Washington Dulles will gain a daily United service to Toulouse from 26 April. The route will be operated with the A321XLR.
United has noted that eight of the 10 new destinations will have no other US airline operating a nonstop service from the US.
The airline is also adding three routes to existing destinations. Daily flights from Los Angeles to Osaka will begin on 27 March, while services from Washington Dulles to Milan will operate three times a week from 28 May. A daily Denver–Paris service will start on 27 May.
United also plans to resume three-times-weekly flights between San Francisco and Tel Aviv on 28 March.
The carrier has added 58 international destinations to its network since 2017 and now serves more than 160 international destinations.
A321XLR to Support European Expansion
United’s new Airbus A321XLR will be used on several of the new European routes. The aircraft is scheduled to enter international service on 1 December 2026, initially operating from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin.
The aircraft will feature 20 United Polaris suites with privacy doors and 12 United Premium Plus seats. It will also offer Economy Plus seating with additional elbow room and access to a shared table across an open middle seat.
Other features include Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, 4K OLED seatback screens with Bluetooth connectivity and a snack bar in the economy cabin.
United expects the A321XLR to begin operating selected domestic services in September before moving to international routes.
The aircraft will operate the new Newark services to Luxembourg, Ibiza, Valencia and Marseille, as well as the Washington Dulles–Toulouse route.
The airline will also return several destinations introduced for summer 2026 during summer 2027, including Split in Croatia, Bari in Italy, Glasgow in Scotland and Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
