The US Department of Transportation (US DOT) has announced nearly 615 million USD  in funding for airport infrastructure projects across 42 states and two US territories.

The funding, announced by Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, will support 238 grants through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Projects will include runway and taxiway improvements, airfield safety infrastructure, terminal facilities and other airport developments.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said:

We’re improving safety and efficiency at airports throughout the U.S. We’re prioritising these grants in a time when Americans are travelling more than ever, ensuring we fulfil our promise to transform the passenger travel experience.

Among the larger awards, Midland International Air & Space Port in Texas will receive 21.5 million USD for runway rehabilitation, while 19.5 million USD has been allocated for the construction of a new airport in Noatak, Alaska.

San Diego International Airport will receive 15.3 million USD for noise mitigation, while Gary/Chicago International Airport in Indiana has been awarded 8.3 million USD for a new contract tower.

Other projects include 8 million USD for a new terminal at Lynchburg Regional Airport in Virginia, 6.3 million USD to extend the runway at Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina and 2.4 million USD for new passenger boarding bridges at Sacramento International Airport in California.

The investment aims to support improvements to airport infrastructure across the country.

Upgrading our airport infrastructure is part of our work to usher in the Golden Age of Transportation. American families deserve state-of-the-art runways, taxiways and infrastructure that will make their travel experience safer, smoother, and more efficient.

Airports can use AIP funding for a range of infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, signage, lighting, markings and other safety-related requirements.
