US: LAS Airport Introduces Remote Bag Drop

In Las Vegas, Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) has launched a remote bag drop service that aims to enhance the customer experience and improve operational efficiencies.

The new service will allow travellers to check their bags and print their boarding passes at the airport’s Rent-A-Car Center and at Terminal 3 Departures Curb to avoid lines at the airline’s ticket counter.

This will also make it more convenient for passengers to use the Remote Parking Lot, located across from the Airport Rent-A-Car Center.

Through this offering, LAS hopes to reduce passenger volumes at check-in areas, lessen departure curb traffic and minimise the amount of luggage on airport shuttles and inside the terminals. This comes ahead of Las Vegas hosting the Super Bowl on Sunday 11 February.

Ralph LePore, Senior Director for the Clark County Department of Aviation said:

“As passenger volumes continue to grow, we are constantly seeking new ways to make the travel experience less stressful for customers while also reducing congestion at key points of the airport’s operations. This remote bag drop service will provide increased flexibility for our passengers, and we are thrilled to have it in time to welcome fans arriving for Super Bowl LVIII.”

The two permanent locations will operate Thursdays-Mondays from 4am to 2.30pm at the Rent-A-Car Center and from 4am to 12pm at Terminal 3 Departures.

The sites will be operated under a multi-year contract with BAGS Inc., which manages similar programmes in Denver, Tampa, New Orleans, Orlando and Boston.

The contract also provides LAS with the option to operate additional pop-up locations during high-volume weekends.

Currently, remote bag drop is available for domestic passengers flying with American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines.
