Ontario International Airport (ONT) has announced the opening of its newly-expanded passenger screening checkpoint in Terminal 2, with similar enhancements also scheduled to open soon in Terminal 4.
The project, which has been years in the making, has been designed to improve passenger glow whilst incorporating state-of-the-art security technologies, and marks the latest investment in ONT’s ongoing commitment to providing travellers with a smooth airport experience.
Since its return to local ownership in November 2016, ONT has grown from roughly 4.3 million annual passengers to over 7 million, becoming one of the fastest-growing commercial airports within the United States.
The new checkpoint expansion was designed to ensure the airport continues to meet this increased demand whilst maintaining a strong performance with regards to convenience.

The modernisation includes a set of two new security screening lanes in Terminal 2, which allows for an increase in passenger screening capacity during peak travel periods. In order to create the additional space necessary, the building’s secure exit corridor was relocated west of the existing checkpoint, improving passenger circulation throughout the terminal.
Future enhancements to Terminal 4 will include one new security screening lane and a secure new exit corridor – matching Terminal 2.
The upgraded checkpoint utilises advanced security and passenger guidance technologies such as enhanced monitoring systems, new document verification equipment, upgraded closed-circuit television systems and digital information displays that help guide travellers through the screening and exit process.
