ZOOZ Power has signed a binding memorandum of understanding with a global car rental services provider to pilot ultra-fast charging infrastructure at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

ZOOZ Power did not say who the car rental company was, though said that it operated “thousands of car rental sites in over 100 countries”.

To progress with the electrification of its fleet, the provider has identified the need for ultra-fast charging facilities. However, at many of its sites such as airports, substantial grid constraints have inhibited or delayed the installation of such infrastructure.

To overcome this challenge, the two companies will pilot ultra-fast charging infrastructure at LaGuardia Airport, where the electric grid is power-constrained. The necessary capability will be provided though ZOOZ Power’s ZOOZTER-100 product, which stores kinetic energy in flywheels to boost power.

ZOOZ’s flywheel-based power boosting technology enables unlimited high-power charge & discharge cycles with a lifespan of more than 15 years

The companies aim to have the pilot site operational during Q2 of 2023.

Boaz Weizer, ZOOZ Power’s CEO said:

The electric vehicles’ revolution introduces dramatic changes to how car rental sites operate and the infrastructures they utilise. Car rental service providers are in need of ultra-fast charging infrastructure in their sites, but the build of such infrastructure is challenged and / or delayed due to power-constrained grid, and that is precisely the gap that we address and provide with a solution.

We are excited to collaborate with one of the global giants of the car rental industry, to prove the uniqueness and significant added value that our solution provides this use case.
