Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has contracted Leidos to provide new baggage scanners, tray return systems and security software to modernise its security checkpoint.
Under this contract, LBA will deploy Leidos’ ClearScan carry-on baggage scanners, ProPassage Automated Tray Return Systems and Mosaic Enterprise Software Platform.
ClearScan is a computed tomography (CT) scanner that uses advanced threat detection algorithms that eliminate the need for passengers to remove electronics and liquids from carry-on baggage. This deployment would conform to the UK government’s regulation for all major airports to install CT scanners by July 2024.
The ProPassage system would also further enhance the efficiency of the security process by automatically feeding trays to passengers as part of an integrated lane with higher throughput.
In addition, Leidos’ enterprise software platform, Mosaic, will integrate and analyse real-time data to create a centralised security management system. This will enable the airport to better manage passenger flows at checkpoints, reduce security bottlenecks and plan for system downtime.
Brad Buswell, Senior Vice President and Operations Manager at Leidos said:With travel demands hitting or exceeding pre-pandemic levels, the right technologies can help deliver the highest level of threat detection and a more seamless experience for passengers,” said. “We are delighted to work with Leeds Bradford Airport and provide our advanced security solutions.
The first new lanes are expected to be installed at the end of 2023 with project completion set for early 2024.
