Leonardo has been awarded a new contract for the refurbishment and expansion of Hamburg Airport’s (HAM) baggage handling system (BHS).

The project, which is scheduled to be completed during a three year period between 2026 and 2029, is expected to improve operations at both Terminal 1 and the Plaza area, ensuring a reliable sorting capacity for all passengers using the German airport.

MBHS - Multi Baggage Handling Systems
Leonardo will replace the existing baggage handling system at Hamburg Airport

Work will include the complete replacement of the current BHS in Terminal 1 with Leonardo’s own cross-belt MBHS® (Multisort Baggage Handling System) technology, which will be implemented through a phased plan that ensures airport operations remain unaffected.

Leonardo recently installed its BHS at Frankfurt Airport, and has implemented the system at numerous airports in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, India and the United States.
