Munich Airport has officially welcomed the first passengers to its brand-new Terminal 1 Pier, with the extension now open for regular daily operations.
To mark the occasion; Thomas Hoff Andersson, Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer at Munich Airport, personally welcomed travellers as they entered the site.

During its first day of operation (21 April 2026), more than 11,000 passengers travelled on over 70 flights, with the first arrival of an American Airlines flight from Charlotte greeted with a water salute.
In the morning, a Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-900 provided another highlight by arriving in a special retro livery to mark the airline’s 80th anniversary.
The full, operational opening marks the completion of a construction project spanning more than seven years, during which the new pier was built alongside ongoing airport operations and gradually prepared for operational use, including a trial phase during the last six months.
Prior to the welcoming of its first passengers, Munich Airport welcomed guests onsite to celebrate the initial launch of the new site, with attendees including the Minister-President of Bavaria Dr. Markus Söder; Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder; Bavarian Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Munich Airport Albert Füracker; Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Affairs of the City of Munich Dr. Christian Scharpf, and Chief Executive Officer of Munich Airport Jost Lammers.
