Frankfurt Airport has officially welcomed the first flight at its new Terminal 3 building.
Flight CZ8021 from Shenyang, operated by China Southern Airlines, arrived at 5:25 on the morning of 23 April.

Once arrived, the flight was given a water salute – a tradition for the first flights to use a new terminal and/or expansion.
The first day of operations saw 12 arrivals, 12 departures and a total of 6,000 passengers carried in and out of Terminal 3.
Alexander Laukenmann, the head of Fraport’s Aviation Division, said:The first plane that we handle on Terminal 3’s first day of operation is a special moment that will go down in the history of Frankfurt Airport.
It’s much more than just a familiar procedure at a new building. It marks the culmination of years of planning, finally becoming reality thanks to years of dedication and effort by everyone involved. This special moment belongs to everyone who has helped build and take Terminal 3 live here at Frankfurt Airport.
Construction for the site first began in October 2015, with a ten-year construction period resulting in a terminal will serve up to 19 million passengers per year across its three piers G, H and J. All work has been handled by Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH (FAS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport AG.
