On 24 January, Nashville International Airport (BNA) welcomed its first passengers through its new Grand Lobby facility.
This renovation is part of the airport’s ongoing BNA Vision transformation plan. Its opening marks the return of a single terminal at BNA, providing a single entry point to all concourses.
As part of the renovation, the TSA checkpoint has been expanded to include 24 security lanes, allowing faster access to the gates.
The TSA checkpoint also features new CT scanners that use a sophisticated algorithm to generate a 3D image of each bag’s contents. Thanks to this technology, passengers are now able to keep electronics and liquids within their bags.
In addition, the Grand Lobby includes a new Central Marketplace with new dining, retail, and service amenities.
Passengers will be greeted by two displays playing video capsules celebrating Music City’s legacy. Each large-scale screen is 70-foot by 10-foot in size. They were designed by Gentilhomme Studio in collaboration with Burns Engineering Inc.
The Grand Lobby features a sweeping roof canopy with an oculus skylight that aims to depict an acoustic guitar from an aerial view. The roof canopy brings in natural light and connects the pedestrian bridge entry to the airfield.
A new pedestrian bridge has also been constructed to connect the lobby to the parking garages.
Building upon the work of BNA Vision, the airport will now continue to improve its facilities, investing 1.4 billion USD in a New Horizons improvement and expansion plan.
